I am looking for information on Charles Coffey Alger, 4 Jul 1809 - 13 Jul 1874, who was a son of Levi Alger (1781 - 1820) and Grace Coffey (abt. 1785 - 1862). Charles Coffey Alger was born in Monroe, Orange County, New York to Levi Alger, the first husband of Grace Coffey. Grace Coffey was a daughter of John Coffey, Sr. (b. abt. 1750 in Ireland) and Experience of Massachusetts. Experience may have been a daughter of Benjamin Nye of Sandwich, Mass. and his second wife. (Rachel Foster????) Levi and Grace also had a daughter Emily F. Alger who was born about 1819 and died in 1845 while the wife of Cyrus Pratt. They had a daughter Sarah Emily Pratt who had two husbands and three children by each one. After Levi Alger died in 1820, Grace Coffey Alger married the widower, Col. James Youngs of Blooming Grove, Orange County, New York. As far as I know they had no children together but the Colonel had a daughter and son (James Madison Youngs) from his first wife.
I have no idea who the parents of Levi Alger were. All that I know is that he and Grace Coffey are buried in the cemetery behind the Woodbury Shopping Commons in Monroe, New York along with Emily F. Alger Pratt and her husband Cyrus Pratt (who, by the way, married Emily's first cousin Harriet Coffey after Emily died and left him with a baby girl to raise).
C. C. Alger became rich in the iron business at Stockbridge, Mass. and Hudson, New York. He had a mansion at Newburgh before he divorced his first wife, Sarah Palmer, after 36 years of marriage. They had a daughter Grace (never married) and a son Charles Alger. C. C. Alger then married a woman (Marie Louise Molt) about 30 - 40 years younger than he was and had a daughter Lucile Alger (who never married).
Does anyone know who the parents of Levi Alger were and the names of his siblings, etc.?
