There was a Joseph Alger of Great Nine Partners who was one of the 60 families settling Danby, Vermont with the settlement starting in the summer of 1765 after some preliminaries. The 60 families came from Great Nine Partners, Dutchess County, New York and there was also an Asa Alger and a Samuel Alger. This was a very wild area so I think that the Joseph Alger could have been the Joseph Alger, born 21 April 1733 at Lyme, New London County, Connecticut who was a son of Joseph Alger and Mary Huntley. I have Alger ancestors from Lyme thru Jonathan Alger, and his second wife Lydia Hudson and then through their son Jonathan Alger, Jr., born 1750, and his wife Amy Garrison, born 1748. Jonathan Alger, Jr. and Amy Garrison spent part of their marriage in Dutchess County, New York and died in the Hinesburg area of Vermont where they are buried.
