Hello Dale, My great grandfather was Antonio Aliantro. (My grandmother's father.) He immigrated to the US around 1890 from Basilicata, according to a cousin who spoke with him and knew the dialect. His mother's name was Batista. His wife was also Batista (San Giorgio?) and came with him. When she died in 1899 the family sent his mother here and then sent another wife for him, Eva (Fortunato?).I do know that he lived from 1866 to 1950, and that he was quite prosperous here. The story has it that he was also prosperous in Italy.I have been looking for the name Aliantro for quite a few years and have had no luck. There is an Aliandro listed in passenger lists that may or may not be him.My grandfather was also from Potenza (his name was Molinari), evidently the family kept to the nearby towns in Italy for finding partners. Both grand parents were born in the early 1890's.With the name Aliano being so close, and the Potenza connection, I thought that I'd drop you a line.
