Hi Celia; I have been working on genealogy along with our family historian and when I mentioned the name Aljoe to her, that was someone she had never heard of.So it has been a fun time getting to the roots of family. A gentleman saw my name on a site and the fact that I was looking for Aljoe relatives. He too was researching them. To make a long story short we have pooled our family data and it is now in print.
At present, I am trying to assemble many pictures into a story form, and it all starts with Robert Aljoe and his wife Anne Matthews. One of their daughters Elizabeth Jane is my great grandmother.Robert and Anne Aljoes daughter Eliza Jane Married Matthew Scott. They had a big family:Margaret, Robert James, Samuel John, Eliza Jane,Matthew Clark, Victoria, William George and May. Their daughter Eliza Jane married John James Mac Rae, and their first born Marjorie Mae MacRae is MY mother. Mother married Robert Hudson Cunningham and I am their 3rd of six children, and I married Dennis Roy Schroeder in 1949.
I have considerable data that I could scan to you Celia, if you are still looking for originand from whence the Aljoes came. One of my sisters has the belief, that they were Huguenots and fled France to Switzerland, England and America. Now tis was in the 16th and 17th centuries, so this would be the ancestors of our Grandpa Aljoe. A neice of mine drew this message of yours to my attention today. Sincerely, Esther Schroeder firstname.lastname@example.org
