My family is descended from miners who have been based in Fife for over a century and before that in Clackmannan.
My grandfather was David Allan b 1897 in Hill of Beath, Fife - one of 6 brothers - the others being Tom, Jim, John, William& Archie.His parents were Thomas Allan b Oakley, Carnock, Fife on 14 April 1869.Thomas married Isabella Shaw from Glenbuck, Ayrshire in Hill of Beath in 1891.Thomas had 10 brothers and sisters born variously in Culross, Carnock and Coalsnaughton - David,Marjory, James, William, Mary, Ann, Peter, Margaret, Agnes and Andrew.Some died young but several lived to an advanced age in Coalsnaughton while others lived in Cowdenbeath and Saline in Fife.
My GG Grandfather was Thomas Allan b 1830 in Sauchie who married Marion Paterson from Dollar in 1861 at Carnock. They both died in Coalsnaughton in the 1900's.Marion was daughter of James Paterson and Marion Archibald of Alloa.
GGG Grandfather was David Allan who was married to Mary Paterson.He died in 1867 in Coalsnaughton.They had at least 5 sons - Thomas (above), Charles born in Clackmannan in 1820 (married Agnes Pollock), William (married Agnes's sister Mary Pollock) who died in an accident in a pit near Tillicoultry in 1862, David & Alexander (married to Christine Forrester and then Mary Ainsley).
GGGG Grandfather was Charles Allan who married Catherine Michie on 2 April 1797 in Alloa.Their children included Christian, Frances, Magdalene, James, Alexander and John as well as David.Their son James was married to Janet Snedodon and died in Fishcross in 1884.Their son Alexander was married twice to Henrietta Allan (daughter of William Allan and Jacobina Fife) and to Mary Ann Erskine Fife (daughter of John Fife and Jean Hunter).
