There is an Ohio connection! This Robert Allan was a weaver in Greenock (Paisley) (shown in "The Greenock Directory" in 1815 and in 1820).He married Anna Leslie while still in Scotland and came to the US some time between 1825 and 1830.They lived in North Huntingdon Township, Westmoreland County, PA in 1840 and 1850 censuses and is shown as a weaver in the 1850 census.I can't find them in 1830, but all children were born in PA.From the 1850 census (shown as Robert Alonz - have to love those census takers!), the children are:Al___ (can't make it out) 21, Francis 19, Margaret 16, Isabella 16, Mary 14, Thomas 12, John 10, Robert 7.Isabella McGrue Allen was my greatgrandmother, 11/29/1833-6/23/1921, buried in Plum Creek Cemetery, Allegheny County, PA, married John Euwer.
Robert and Anna Allen are shown with their four youngest children in the 1860 census (Robert as a farmer) for Benton Township, Monroe County, Ohio.Robert and Anna appear again in the 1870 census same location. It appears that Thomas with wife Mary and daughter Ann may be living next door as Thomas is listed as a farm laborer and Robert is now in his 70's.Post office in 1870 census is shown as Graysville, and the farm is valued at $3,200 in 1870 dollars.
Since it has been nearly three years since Margi has posted anything on this board, I don't know if she is still researching. If anyone else is researching this Allan (Allen) line, please contact me on this board or directly to see if we can put anything together going back and to share what we have on the lines coming forward. At least some of these middle names have to provide some kind of clue to their ancestry.Thank you! Mary Lou
