Barbara, My name is Bernard Allan, I was adopted into the Allan family by Alexander (Sandy, Alex, Alec,) Allan (no middle name), of Winsor Ontario Canada in 1959 at the age of 3. My father was born Nov. 27 1898 in Alloa Clackmannanshire Scotland.
He had many brothers, most with a middle name 'Binney', Peter, Joseph, Stuart, George, Raymond, all of whom except George immigrated to Ontario, mostly around Winsor just after WWI. George immigrated to So. Africa. There may have been other brothers and a sister.
I believe his mothers name was Mary, he always refered to his father as 'Old Dick', who was a cooper.
Joe Allan stayed in Scotland and in the early '60's was living in Tillicoutrie (sp?) Clackmannanshire.
All the brothers in Winsor (Peter, Stuart and Raymond) were carpenters as I recall, my father was a butcher and owned a small group of markets in Winsor called 'Allan's Meats'. He had a son from a previous marriage 'Alexander Binney Allan' (Sandy), who took over the business in 1961 and later moved to the Yukon Territory.
I have to believe there is a relationship. Do you recognize any of these names? I lost contact with the family after dad died in 1984.
