Hi Patricia, I'm replying to your message from 04/07/2001.I hope you will get this now, eight years later.I am presently doing some research on Charles S. (Silas) Allan and his family and I think you may be able to fill in some gaps. From what I can figure, his parents were William and Sarah Allan who would also be my great great great grandparents.I can find them in the 1880 census in Rice County Kansas.Charles is also listed in the same household as a single man of 20 years old.His sister (my great great grandmother) was Leveina Allan Rutter who is enumerated in the same census next door with her husband Robert Rutter.Their daughter Sarah,10, was my great grandmother. As far as I can figure out Charles married Ella in Kansas sometime between 1880 and 1885 and they came together to Skagit County Washington settling in the Padilla/Bayview area. Leveina Rutter died (I think in Kansas) in 1889.Robert Rutter then moved with daughter Sarah and 2 sons (Clyde and Vernon) to Skagit County Washington and also settled in the Padilla/Bayview area.It is likely Robert Rutter followed his brother-in-law to Washington.I have no clue what became of William and Sarah Allan. Did they die in Kansas or did they come to Washington as well? Robert Rutter is still in Skagit County in 1910 but his whereabouts after then is unknown to me or my family. Sarah Rutter married John P Jacobsen in 1890 and divorced in 1897.She then married John W. Kamb in 1900.She died of TB in 1908.She and Kamb had 2 children, Oscar Floyd Kamb (my grandfather) and Leona Lena Kamb. When they were young they lived in the Padilla/Bayview area of Skagit County and were close with Charles and Ella Allan's children. However after Sarah's death in 1908 the families drifted apart. My father, born in 1929, had only scant knowledge that the "Allans" were somehow related but he never even met any of them to his knowledge. My family still resides in Skagit County Washington. I know Charles S. Allan had numerous children. Are any still in the area?I'd love to compare notes.
