Re: Any distant cousins......
Dear Paul --
Hello, Cousin! This is just a note to let you know that we enjoyed a wonderful Scotch whiskey at the first Worldwide ALLARDICE/ARDIS Family Reunion at Stone Mountain, Georgia USA in October 2001. The name is Glendronach, and the distillery was founded in 1826, by James ALLARDES... www.whiskyportal.com/distillery.asp?DistilleryID=96 For information on the ALLARDICE/ARDIS Family Association go to... www.allardice.org Let us know what you find in your research. A couple of tips for you: 1) Remember that the "ancient pronunciation" of ALLARDICE was something like "AIR-DIS." I would say you are definitely on the correct path. 2) Do not be confused by ALLARD, which is French, and which has it's own distinguished history... but no connection to us. 3) All "ALLARDICE Names" are going to have two distinct parts (sometimes three syllables, in "modern" pronunciation)... ALLAR-, ALLER-, ALDER-, AR- (the 'AIR-' sound) Plus -DICE, -DYCE, -DES, -DIS (the '-DIS' sound) Tom Ardis Austin, Texas USA Webmaster, ARDISNet www.ardisnet.com
