I do marvel at the power of this site and the technology that makes this communication possible. Two related families re-establish contact after a 30 year lapse to compare notes about their common ancestor who was born over 200 years earlier. Incredible! I'll bet Silvester and Maria would be impressed. According to my information, the last son to be born to Silvestor and Maria was christened Silvestor on 7 August 1827 and Silvestor (the father) died a few years later on 20 May 1831. There is good evidence that Silvestor and Polycarp were brothers and they were born into a Catholic family. Their father William was brought up Anglican and converted to RC when he was 18. Please tell me more about Florence Allcock and her novel. Was she Florence Beatrice (Samuel's daughter)? I am not aware of a Tasmanian family connection. Who was your grandfather and do you know who he was in contact with? I have original copies of letters written by my ancestor Edward during a trip home in 1878 and one of them was written while he was staying with his sister Sarah (your ancestor) at Peakman St. in Redditch on 29 July 1878. I also have letters and diaries kept by his son during a trip back in 1923 describing their stay with Sarah's daughter and meeting other family members.
