G'day I am descended from Richard Hall, born Leek 20 Nov 1774, who married Jane Allcock 12 May 1794 at Wetton. Jane was christened 3 July 1774 either at Ipstones or Wetton and her parents were Thomas and Jane Allcock.
A son, Richard Hall, was a shoemaker in Leek (Custard St) before emigrating to South Australia in 1853 with his wife Ellen Burgess and three children. Richard died at age 72 when falling from a trap whilst journeying from Adelaide to his home at Yacka.
Two older sons, Hugh and Daniel Hall, had previously emigrated to Australia in 1839. Their children pioneered the remote regions of Australia and used camel strings to prospect for gold and to collect sandalwood for the Chinese market. They achieved great success in their new land.
I am researching the early Allcock/Hall/Burgess families and would appreciate any additional information on these remarkable people. I am happy to provide the substantial info on the Hall family Downunder. Also researching the Cowin family from Isle of Man. Best wishes.
