I will put my two cents in on this subject. Both William/Elizabeth Symons Aldridge and his brother, James, had sons names James and Nicholas. There seems to be much agreement that William's son James was born in 1742.This James married Alsey Jacobs and raised his family in Caswell County, NC.That leaves the other James to be the son of James. This is the James that married Rosannah Kendrick.I am sure that this James is the brother of my Nicholas who followed him to Georgia after his son, Elijah died in Wilkes County, NC. I deduced this from what appeared to be right. However, several Aldridge immigrants had come to America and it is possible some of them may be original. Yvonne Cates Barton assumed that James (and Rosannah) was the son of William and I believe he was the son of James, the youngest son of Nicholas and Martha of Maryland.Neither one of us could prove beyond a shadow of doubt whether we were right or wrong. We agreed to disagree. Yvonne was a retired psychologist from Tulsa.Since her entries in the forum, she passed away. The descendants of James and Rosannah use the Alldredge spelling. His brother, Nicholas's descendants mostly use the Aldridge spelling with exception to the line from Elijah's son, Edmund.
