I am interested in your posting of March 21, 2000 which mentioned the name Christian Buerki (Burkey).I am the great great great granddaughter of Elizabeth (Maria Elizabeth Buerki Lippoldt.Elizabeth and at least some of her family came to the United States from Switzerland in the late 1840's or early 1850's.
Elizabeth Buerki married Gottlob G. Lippoldt @1853 in Illinois around Alton or Brighton.Elizabeth's sister Maria (Mary, Marie, or Mariah) married Michael Rey (Ray) around the same time and place.Eliz. and Gottlob Lippoldt are found on an 1870 Illinois Census record around Brighten (under G. G. Lippoldt) and Michael and Maria Rey are found on a Illinois 1860 Census in Macoupin, Illinois (under M. Ray or Rey).By 1880 both families had moved out of state. The Lippoldts moved to Edwards County, Kansas and the Reys moved to Minneapolis, Hennepin, Minnesota.
Do you have any information on the Christian Buerki (Burkey) you mentioned in your post?Is he from Switzerland?Do any of his census records indicate when he came to US?How did he happen to be living in Missouri?Elizabeth and Maria were said to have a brother named Christian. Some family information indicates that some to the Buerki family returned to Switzerland after living a few years in the United States.Any info. on Christian and his family, especially his parents, would be extremely helpful to me and the Buerki/Lippoldt descendants.
Thanks for any and all help, Jeannie Dohrman Robertson, who is the daughter of Wilma Jean Anderson Dohrman, who is the daughter of Charles William Anderson, who was the son of Anna Rosa Lippoldt Anderson, who was the daughter of Elizabeth Buerki Lippoldt
