This line surely has kept me confused for a long time. The John Spurlock in Surry Co, NC seems so old to be his father.I know that is not unheard ofbut I was wondering if there could be a generation between them. For instance, a Joshua Spurlock received a headright and bounty grant of 200 acres in Wilkes County a year after David Allen did.Do you know who he is?And who is the William Spurlock who is mentioned as owning money in the estate records of James Aycock of Wilkes County in 1778?These are the only two Spurlock names I have seen in asssociation with Wilkes other than Allen, Sarah, and James.I need to find that deed where David Allen buys Allen and Sarah Spurlock land from Benjamin Allen in 1791 in Wilkes.I would like to see if there are any clues that the abstractor didn't get.I'm assuming Sarah was his mother but could she have been his sister?
I'm curious to why you think the James Spurlock in 1800 Oglethorpe and the James Spurlock/Spullock who d. 1806 in Clarke Co, GA are the same one.In the 1805 land lottery there were two James Spurlock's who drew land, one lived in Clarke County and one lived in Oglethorpe.I have an appx. birthdate of 1793 for the James Spurlock/Spullock, Jr. of Clarke Co in my files so I don't think he was old enough to be the one in Oglethorpe County. There is also a deed in Oglethorpe County dated Feb 1808 that mentions land adj James Spurlock that was sold to him by James Brooks. This family might have moved to Jackson County, GA as there are several Spurlock marriages there as well as a James Spurlock, Jr. listed on the 1830 census for Jackson County. Then I found some names in 1850 Coweta County, GA who I believe might be the children of James:
SPURLOCK, Allen, Coweta County, #19th Div, page 300
SPURLOCK, H., Coweta County, #19th Div, page 378
SPURLOCK, James, Coweta County, #19th Div, page 299
SPURLOCK, John, Coweta County, #19th Div, page 303
I meant to look these guys up and never got a chance to.I have seen a WFT which I think was confirmed by an ancestor for me that mentions a James Spurlock married to a Margaret Bailey. Children listed are John Ross, James, Allen, Jim, Newton, Joseph, and William Spurlock.
Ken, I would love to continue this conversation through email.I would like to hear about the Street connection and the John Spurlock you mention, son of William of Henrico.I would also like to know more about how you think Robert is connected because I think that he might be the father of the Allen that was killed by Indians. My email is EleanorCol@aol.com.
