Has anyone been able to unravel the Allen families of early Barren County, Kentucky? Many were probably related. John, Elisha, William, James, Charles, and Zachoriah all showed up between 1798 and 1800. Most of the elder ALLENs seemed to be born before 1770 and were from Virginia. An Elijah was also on the 1805 tax list. At the time of John's death (late 1816) his wife was Annie. Appears that she was previously married to a PERKINS. James and Elijah were mentioned in the administration of the estate. William died prior to Nov. 1811. His wife was Kitty (HOUSER). James was a lawyer and is mentioned frequently in the court records of Barren County. Many of these early ALLENs had land along Beaver Creek as well as the Barrens, Sinks of Beaver Creek, Burr Creek, Nobob, and Red Oak Grove. Other ALLENs appearing later are Jesse, Joseph, Merrill, Buford, David, Thomas, several John's, several William's, a few Joel's, Isaiah, several Reuben's, Samuel, Daniel, and others. Some may be the offspring of the elder ALLENs, but it is not clear. Many of the ALLENs had large families, and it is unclear from the records that I have exactly who those children were. Where were these ALLENs from? If they were from Virginia, where in VA? Who were their forefathers? Their wives and children, brothers and sisters? If they were related, how? Are there any books written about them? I'm still chasing a few sources, but information seems to be slim. If anyone out there recognizes any of the names mentioned above and has done work on their line, I am interested. I am especially curious about the early group of ALLENs (1798-1800) and those prior to 1840.
