One of my Allen cousins sent me a copy of a family tree which states that Samuels father was a Scottsman Allen. Apparently the family emigrated to Ireland from Scotland some time before 1755. The 44th and 48th foot sail in1755 a ship to America from Cork Ireland. The ship may have disembarked in Alexandria Virginia by Mar. 16 1755. I don't know for sure if Sam and his brothers are enlisted with these two regiments when they leave Ireland or did they join up after they arrived in America? Regardless according to family records they were with Braddock at his defeat in June 1755.
The 4 Allen Brothers: Samuel, James, John and Hugh participated in Braddocks defeat... James and John being killed in that battle. Hugh apparently died later that year in another battle.
Another note- I did notice a Samuel Allen in Church and Marriage records for Buckingham County, Virginia Nov. 10, 1786, online. Interesting note on that is that familiar names-- Chastain and Goss are mentioned also. Sams grandson James married a Chastain and his great grandson John C. married a Goss.
Samuels son was Reuben/Rubin/Ruben Allen (I've seen a couple different spellings for his name) Reuben according to my records married a Denton woman. Her first name is unknown to me at this time. Reuben was in the Old Walton County area from between 1783 and 1810. Old Walton County was only a County for a short time. Reuben participated in the Old Walton County war. A battle for a small strip of land between North and South Carolina and Georgia. Described as a backwoodsman in the book Wayfarers of Walton by Anita Sams.
One more note on Sam... I don't know if Sam and his wife ever had any daughters or who Samuel married. Only Sam and his sons are mentioned in all the info I have.
Also Sam may be buried at Oolenoy Church in the Pendleton District of South Carolina.
I am really interested in anything about Sam of course. But would love to know if anyone might know where I can find records of Soldiers who fought in the French and Indian War. Or info on Soldiers who died. And any of the above info I will gladly correct or change if I'm wrong. :)
