oh, dear, I don't know if the message I just wrote was sent or erased. here goes again. sorry for duplication.
The probable parents of Samuel Allen, Jr. were Samuel Allen and Marcy Otis Ross.Marcy Otis was born June 5, 1747 in MOntville, New London, Ct (dau of Joseph Ross Jr and Elizibeth Little). She married Perrin Ross (I had this wrong in previous email),in CT 1787 and then moved to settle the Wyoming Territory (Luzerne Co et. al, PA or "western CT") with him and his family.Joe, Jr. was killed in the Wyoming Massacre.Marcy and other survivors trekked back to CT (there is a diary -- though not necessarily Marcy's -- somewhere of this journey which I'd live to find/see).Back in New London, Marcy meets/marries in 1782 Samuel Allen, born December 9, 1742 (son of Daniel Allen, Jr. of Pomfret, CT).this was Samuel's second marraige and he had children by his first marriage (e.g. Pauline, Stephen, David, Elias)-- all of whom I beleive moved to Luzerne Co, PA.
Samuel and Marcy go back to the Wyoming Territory to reclaim her property rights and raise a family there. The family is well documented.
Samuel Allen, Jr. is believed to be a son of this family...though the proof is not as solid as I would like. It is possible he is a son by the first marriage-- and even possibly from a different line all together. He is cited as a child of Samuel Allen of Luzerne Co, PA in several secondary sources, including Shoemaker. Samuel and Marcy's children include the children cited in your email (e.g. Amy, Peter, Otis, Marcy, Fayette, and possibly Samuel Jr.).
I have information about samuel and marcy way back to "the boats", as well as the historic lineage of the Asahel Drake line (father of Mary/Molly/Polly/Margaret Drake who married Samuel Allen, Jr.). They lived on Rensselear and had children born there, possibly in Hoosick and/or Pittsfield areas, which included two sons:Asahel D(rake) Allen and Morgan Allen. There were also sisters per the census and these are believed to be Alvira/Almira Allen (m. Israel Wilcox); Maria/Martha Allen (m. Daniel Lamoreaux); Amanda Allen (m. Oliver Ide), possibly others. Again, the support data is not 100% here....That is the leve/focus of research at this point.
Asahel Drake had moved from Canaan, NY to Plymouth, Luzerne Co, NY, where he had land transactions with Samuel Allen, Sr.When Samuel Allen, Jr. died in Luzerne Co in 1842, his probable sons, Asahel and Morgan were involved in the land transfers.
So, roughly this is it.I have tons of dates and various detailshere and there and information on the Asahel and Morgan Allen descendents. The big problem is getting the "proofs" to link the data together -- or putting them where they rightfully belong.....
However, it is this proof juncture which is proving troublesome. The records are so limited for this period. I am looking for the folks out there who are both intersted and can share the challenge of making the geneaology solid v. suppositional. If you have any information/data, however small, please share!
