Bob, I hope your still looking for your A. J. Allen! We may be able to help each other out.I am researching Allen's who originated from Maine and then settled in IL. I don't know how or if we connect, but in the research of my line, I have found a A. J. Allen in a 1850 census, age 29, shoemaker born in Maine.Listed with Darcus age 22 Maine. Two children Mary age 3 & Milo age 2 ((both born in ILL) In the same house they also have listed a William age 23 Farmer from Maine. I think somehow these people are connected to me, This is a very small rural area and there seems to be at least 3 or 4 Allen families from Maine listed. Nathaniel 1850 census age 61 with wife Mary(maybe Mary(Polly)Tinkerman) age 59 w/ 5 children all born in Maine age 27-11.I believe Nathaniel is the youngest son of Thomas Allen. A.J & William are the right age to be a son of Nathaniel. I derive from Thomas's oldest Child John, John's son, John & Sophia (Gunn) moved to this area in 1855. No one on the forum seems to be researching this line. Please contact me so we can maybe sort this out. I have gathered quite a bit of info you might be interested in.
