It does seem that Preston and Lucy were only togeher for 10 years or a bit longer, Creed was born about 1837, he was the youngest.
Whatever happened between the parents, it didn't stop Malinda and Hugh from naming sons for Preston. Hugh named his oldest son Harvey Preston (my great grandfather).
I hadn't been able to find George and Malinda Martin after 1850 in Patrick County, it would seem that they did follow Preston to Kanawha County. What in the world was going on? Maybe William Martin and Martha Allen went to West Virginia also, they seem to have left Patrick County.
Creed G. Allen was in the 51st Virginia Infantry. When he enlisted in June of 1861 he gave his residence as Elamsville, in Patrick County. This regiment fought a lot during the war, but Creed must have seen enough after two years, he was reported as a deserter in May 1863. He seems to have gone home, his daughter Lucy was born in 1864.
Hugh had settled in Pulaski County, Virginia by 1860, sometime early in the war he moved to Cincinnati, Ohio. He is supposed to have served in the Union army, can't find his military records and he didn't receive a pension. The story goes that he was captured twice during 1864 in Tennessee and escaped both times.
Do you know where and when John Martin was born? Just wondering if George and Malinda had any children born in Patrick County.
