John Martin married in Cabell Co. in 1897 and is on the 1900 census. He lists his birth place as Patrick Co, Va and the year as 1850. James Preston Martin, born in 1855 to George and Malinda in Kanawha County, WV is the same Preston they are listed with on the 1880 census for Putnam County. Also, I found them in 1870 in Putnam County and here's the listing:
Martin, G.W.-Head-43-VA-Retired Farmer Martin, Malinda J.-Wife-43-VA-Keeps House Martin, John W.-Son-20-VA-Farm Laborer Martin, Creed J.-Son-18-VA-At Home Martin, George W.K.-Son-16-VA-At Home Martin, James P.-Son-15-VA-At Home Martin, Ruben M.-Son-13-VA-At Home
So they are only missing in 1860 and I would like to check the 1840 census to see who George's parents are, but I don't know if that information is available. Martha Ann Allen married Wm. Martin, who i believe lived about 2 doors doen in the 1850 Patrick Co. Census.Creed married the Martin girl next door.Wm. Martin's father is "James" and perhaps this is George's father also.Just speculation of course, I have no proof of that. I found that Creed deserted and I wanted to be sure it was him.Apparently, George and Malinda had a Creed Martin! How this all relates to me is that John W. Martin has daughter Melinda L. Martin and they move to OK and she hooks up with Jarrell Burrow and has my grandfather. My grandfather died in the 60's and I never knew him, so I had no information about his family...This has been an uphill battle that began with his poorly written social security application.
So, if Hugh Allen was your great-great grandfather, and he was my great-great-great-great grandfather, that must make us...No clue.
