Hugh was married twice, he first married Eliza Driscoll on the 3rd of March 1859 at Snowville, Pulaski County, Virginia. Eliza is my ancestor through their son Harvey Preston, Hugh & Eliza had another son Daniel C. who died young and a daughter Mary Ella who married a man named Straken. Eliza Driscoll Allen died in Cincinnati, Ohio November 10, 1867. Hugh married Mary McDermott (widow of John McDermott) on October 22, 1868, they were probably married in Cincinnati and moved to Rockcastle County, Kentucky in 1869, their only child, Hugh Andrew was born there in Sept. 1869 (he died at three years in Kansas). Mary had two children by John McDermott, Mary Elizabeth (married a man named Patee) and James P.. Hugh and Mary took their family to Douglas County, Kansas in 1872. They took up a farm and died there, Hugh in 1911 and Mary in 1916.
I am trying to find more information on Eliza Driscoll, she was born in Virginia about 1841. Mary McDermot was born in Ireland on New Year's Day 1830.
N(athan) A. Allen died of pneumonia in Patrick County, Virginia at 23 years on January 14, 1859. The informant was L(ucy) Walker (she married John Walker June 19, 1856 in Patrick County), no spouse was listed for Nathan, I assume he never married.
Lucy's second husband, John H. Walker, died at 83 years December 8, 1883 in Patrick County of unknown causes, the informant was his son Linville Walker, Lucy Walker listed as his consort. Lucy must have gone to Kansas between the time John died in 1883 and her own death in 1895. Even if she went west soon after John's death in '83 she would have been 77 years old, she must have been a tough old lady.
I don't have much information on the family beyond Preston Allen and Lucy Boyd. Preston's parents were William & Rachel Allen, Lucy's parents were Hugh Boyd and Sarah (Sally) Ward. I will put what I do have together and send it in a EMail to you.
Right now I'm trying to find out if Rachel was the daughter of John Kindrick (or Kendrick). John died in 1801 in Washington County, Virginia, one of the people involved in settling his estate was his daughter Rachel, wife of William Allen. This John supposedly had a brother, Preston Kendrick, both John and Preston were found during the 1760's in Henry County, Virginia (this area was previously in Pittsylvania County). Preston Kendrick had land next to Nathan Cockram on the Smith River. Nathan's son Spencer married Lucy Boyd's sister Nancy. The point I'm trying to make is that is a good chance that our Rachel was a Kendrick. Just need to make the connection somehow. One other thing is Preston Allen's sister Theodocia Eskew named one son Preston and another Kendrick.
