I spent months copying all the Allens I could find in New Kent, Henrico and Lunenburg Counties, Virginia with never a hint that there was any connection to New England.
Some tried to say one of the Virginia Josephs went to New Hampsire and was he father of Ethan. Other postinggive the grandfather of Ethan as Samuel with another Samuel two generations further back. I think the later posting is likely correct.
So we have Robert/David /Adoniram still in New Jersey up to at least 1761, right ? David and Adonarim then show up on tax lists in Surry in 1771-1772. John Spurlock was on the same lists. He had just come from Virginia. So - just when did the Allen group leave New Jersey ??
I thought the reason the Allens in Wilkes County, Ga bought land for the Spurlock orphans was because their grandmother was Sarah (Allen) Spurlock. I may be wrong. Perhaps Sarah was not the Allen connection. Perhaps a daughter of David Allen of Surry married the Allen Spurlock (son of John and Sarah) who was killed by Indians. Hence, David was helping his grandchildren. This Allen was born ca 1750 as he had a son Allen born ca 1775in Surry. Do these dates fit or would Allen Spurlock's wife age fits better as a sister to Dsavid than a daughter ??? In the latter case, David would have been helping nephew and niece.
I have listed these before but will repeat them. In 1785 Wilkes County, Ga, these Allens were on an alleged tax list : David, Adoniram, Benjamin, Job, John, Charles, Nathaniel. David bought land for the orphans, he bought it from Benjaminand Job was a witness to the deed. Have you any references to Nathniel, Charles orJohn ??
The land had previously been owned by John VanWinkle who was also from Surry County, N.Car.
One other nitIn Davidson County. Tenn. Nathan Allen was born 1794, James ca 1791 (to Ala and Aerk) and Zaxgariah lived there in 1804 (to Ill.).
