Cheryl, Oh my gosh! Oh my gosh! I hope you are the one who may hold the very clue that we've needed all these years! My mother and I have been looking for a Elizabeth Allen born ? married to Benjamin Parks (of the Dahlonegah gold rush Parks) and buried at Cave Springs Baptist in Jackson Co. Ga. I do have the dates, but I am so excited, I don't want to get my files out long enough to look. The one thing that seems to be consistant with your mother's story and the stories we've been told by my grandmother, is that they were all very secretive and hush hush. My grandmother, just turned 87, had told us for years that she knew absolutely nothing about her grandma Parks (Elizabeth Allen.) Which seems hard to believe since Elizabeth came to live with her and her family after the death of her father, A.G. Parks. She said in all those years of her living with them (and it was many, many years) that not once did she ever speak of her "people." No one ever came to visit her, nor did she recieve any letters from family. She said the whole subject was just never brought up. In hindsight, she wishes with all of her heart that she would have just asked her about it. But....times were much different then. I believe that Elizabeth was born in 1851...I'll have to look at my data. But, it would mean the world to my grandma if this is the right Elizabeth. Grandma knew that Elizabeth had some Cherokee blood in her, how much she didn't know. But, she had been named for this woman and knows so little about her. It would be great to know more about this family. They still live within 5 miles of the place where she grew up and the church where they are buried. Ben and Lizzie also have a young daughter buried there too. I will wait for any reply on this....and hope, hope, hope that you have the key to our mysterious Elizabeth. Thanks so much!!!!
