Thought I had problems finding my grandfather William Jayor Willie J. Allen, but sounds like we all have a problem with the Allen's. My grandfather said he was born in Lexington, Kentucky in 1869. I have found out later that he was born in 1880. He never gave his parents names, he just said they died and he went to live with a Aunt, but ran away from there, also said he had a sister , but lost touch with her. Never gave names of parents, Aunt, or sister. I cannot find anything on him from birth to age 27 when he married my grandmother in Louisiana in 1907. I'm wondering if a Missing Persons Bulletin would locate my grandpa. He sure is a mystery. He was a engineer and worked construction all over the U.S.A. and each of his children were born in different states. I found out he joined the Masons in Keithburg,Illinois in 1909 so that's how I found out his birth date was wrong, I visited his grave in Utica, Miss. and his date of birth was 1869-1953. None of the children had any info. on him so went by what he told them.My feelings are in each family there are those who seem called to find their ancestors, to put flesh on their bones and make them live again, this is a never ending project. Each family tree produces some lemons, nuts, and bad apples, but we accept relatives God gave has given us, lucky we canchoose our friends.
