I am looking for relatives of Gloster Allen and Emily Kemp of Wynnewood, Oklahoma who lived at the turn of the 20th century. Both may have been Chickasaw Freedmen. If Gloster Allen was not, Emily Kemp almost certainly was. They appear to have been a common-law couple who had several children, including my maternal grandmother, Ella Wilma Allen. Emily Kemp lived on Gardner Avenue in Wynnewood. Legend has it that her farm was on the Chisholm Trail and every herd that was driven across it had to pay her a penny a head. She was also a midwife who was known as either "Big Mama" or "Black Mama." Gloster was a dandy who wore two pearl handled 45s and chaps. If any of this sounds familiar, please drop me a line.
