According to "The Gilmer County Heritage Book" William was living in Gilmer County before 1840. He came to Gilmer in the late 1830's and lived in the area now known as Rock Creek Rd.
He served two years in the Seminole Wars in Florida(1836-1838) under Captains Chastain and Cody. He was awarded a bounty land of 160 acres which he received in October of 1850.

In 1892 Charity filed application for a pension from William's service in the Indian Wars. She was granted a monthly allotment of $8.00.
Charity is living next door to step son John Harvey Allen in the 1880 Gilmer County census. She is 43. Living with her: Henry L.(son) 16, Rebecca A. (daughter)14, Sarah A. (daughter) 13, George (son) 10, Iry M (son) 5, Arley C (daughter) 5.
1910 Fannin County census, Blue Ridge has Charity living alone. She is head of household, a widow, age 69.

John Harvey Allen is buried at the Whittaker and Allen Cemetary in Cherry Log, Georgia. It is on a wooded hill up from the Winston Roper house at the end of Bates Road. John's tombstone says "We'll join thee in that Heavenly land, no more to take the parting hand."
