Hello.I just found the 1900 Census record for my ancestors in Waller Co., TX.page 48-14a.This is how it reads:
AllenGeorge W.WMMay184258M 28TX MO TX RachelWFSept 185445M 28GA GA GA Charley M.WMFeb188118STX TX GA A**** B.WMJuly 188316STX TX GA Mollie E.WFJune 188515STX TX GA Jefferson D. WMDec188910STX TX GA Clarence J.WMDec18918STX TX GA Sudie B.WFSept 18954STX TX GA
Also lists George and Rachel having 11 children, 8 still living.George was a Farmer and his son's Charley, A?????, and Jefferson were Farm Laborers.
Jefferson D. is Jefferson Davis Allen. He is my great-grandfather.He married Ruthie Irle Bennatt. They moved to Robertson Co. TX between 1915-1925.Jefferson's brother Clarence married Ollie Nora Bennatt - sister of Ruthie. They also moved to Robertson Co. TX.I believe that Charley M.also moved to Robertson Co., but I'm not sure. There is a Charles M. Allen 1881-1945 buried in the same cemetary as Jefferson and Clarence.
I found a biographical sketch of Clarence Joplin Allen and Ollie Nora Bennatt in the new edition of Hearne on the Brazos. The sketch says that Clarence's father was George Washington Allen and his mother was Rachel Catherine Garrison. From the census above, I estimate George and Rachel were married in 1872.George was 30 and Rachel was 18.
So, I am now looking for George's parents. His father being born in Missouri est. between 1802-1824, must have moved to Texas where he met George's mother who was born in TX.
Also, I would like to find out if George was married before, considering he was 12 years older than Rachel.
Another thing worth noting is Clarence's middle name - Joplin.I believe this is a town in Missouri.Maybe he got that name because his grandfather (George's father) was from Joplin, MO.Of course, this is me fishing!
If anyone can help, I would appreciate it. Thank You, Nicole
