Could you tell me more about your NIX line?I have been searching for 6 months now, trying to find my correct line and have hit a brick wall.
My great-grandfather was JOHN HENRY NIX, born 1-1-1852 or 1-30-1861 (bible shows two different dates)He had a brother, J. A. NIX (could be JAMES) that taught school and farmed in Madison County, Ms. (Cobbville, Ms.)I have a letter written by J. A. to JOHN HENRY dated 2-16-1896, so I know this is correct.
Also, bible records show JOHN HENRY had a daughter, Ella Nix, who married a man by the name of Harrison and then married an ALLEN. She had a son by Harrison before her marriage to ALLEN (son born around 1896)
This NIX family, at one time, lived in Coahoma County, Ms., first in Lula, Ms., then Clarksdale, Ms. JOHN HENRY NIX lived in Ms., but worked across the Ms. River in Clarendon Ark. selling family bibles for J. W. JONES CO. in 1896.(have letter proving this)
Bible also shows JOHN HENRY's father to be WILLIAM NIX.In my search, I found a WILLIAM RILEY NIX that was raised by a HARRIS family in Fla.This WILLIAM RILEY NIX was murdered in Ark. by his sister's husband.
This NIX line has been VERY CONFUSING!!I'm beginning to believe the information in my family bible is incorrect. Other names written in my bible are:
Floyd Jefferson Nix Cecil Nix Cora Mae Nix Ola Dell Nix Arthur D. Nix Roger Nix Louise Nix
I don't know how these NIXES are related to JOHN HENRY NIX.Other names(I believe to be two more daughters of JOHN HENRY) are Emma Ophelia NIX and Dora NIX.
There is buried in Grange Cemetary in Clarksdale, Ms. a Martha Harris Allen, born 1835 and died 1929.I'm wondering if she was a NIX, then HARRIS, then ALLEN?
