I believe Dempsey Allen, son of Isaac, came to Natchitoches Parish, LA, with my gg-grandfather where he was enumerated with him in the 1860 census, bought land near Springville in July 1860, then sold the lot in September 1860.He may have returned to Georgia where he enlisted in Co C. 61st Georgia Regt., CSA, in Sept 1861.
General Jackson Allen was identified in Thomas Co., GA, in 1850 with his wife, Mary, and no children. In 1860 he was listed with wife, Mary J., 34, Sarah P., 9, Eliza, 7 (my g-grandmother), Edward H., 4, Robert, 2, and Dempsey Allen, 23.
Jackson enlisted in Co A, 12th LA INF on Mar 1, 1862, and died of pneumonia on May 1, 1862.A 5th child, Mary Jackson, was born Sept 28, 1862.The children were separated after the war.I have found no further evidence of his wife, Mary Jane (Whitaker) Allen, or of Dempsey Allen, in Louisiana.
Eliza Jane Allen Armistead claimed her place of birth as Valdosta, GA.
Any help with the ancestry of Jackson Allen or Mary Jane Whitaker, would be greatly appreciated.
