My father's grandmother was Mary's younger sister -- Eleanor (Nellie) Allen (b.May 25, 1870 in Liverpool, Englandd. Oct 6, 1952 in New Jersey), who married Joseph Sparks Hillman, II.I have two wonderful photographs of Nellie and Joseph (taken from tintypes c. 1908) of them on my wall -- the first showing them in their carriage outside their house in Downingtown, PA; the second of their children sitting in the same carriage.
Mary was remembered quite fondly by my father and his cousins.Apparently she and her sisters got together quite often for family events, but my father remembered little of her except that she was sweet, friendly, and "married to someone by the name of Moore."
On the other siblings -- my father related that Elizabeth (the oldest child) was a tiny woman. She is buried with her husband in (Methodist cemetery?) in Williamstown, NJ.Also buried there is John Allen with his first wife Eva, and their infant daughter Ruth. (There were no other children from either his first or second marriage.)Regarding Joseph -he was called the "drinking uncle" by his nephews (all that Irish blood, I suppose). He married a girl named Rose and they had a son Joseph who ended up in jail in Cleveland. (Interesting what some people remember for their relatives!).Maurice, aka "Morris", lived in Bala Cynwyd, Montgomery Co. PA.
The Charles Miles Allen/Catherine Fitzpatrick family is found in "American Patriots - The Hillman Family of West New Jersey" published by the Gloucester County Historical Society, Woodbury, NY.
