My George Allen married Margaret Chase about 1784 in Pawling,Dutchess Co.,NY.She was the daugter of Abner Chase. They had children: John(c1784-?), Weston(1790-1858), Betsey(c1791-?), George(1793-1851), Almena(c1795-?), Abner(1792-1890), Myron(1802-1856), and Ebenezer(1805-1883).Margaret died about 1815 and George remarried, to an unknown wife, and had a son Dewitt Clinton Allen(1818-1864).About 1792 George and family removed from Pawling to Saratoga Co.,NY.And from there in 1801 removed to Marcellus,Onondaga Co.,NY.Between 1823 and 1825, all the children of George, except, John, Weston and Betsey, removed to Allegany Co.,NY.George died there before 1830.
Betsey is said to have removed to Saratoga Co.,NY.Some records show her as the wife of Selby Caulkins. This is not the case, that Betsey was born 1799, and would have been to young to be the Betsey daughter of George and Margaret Allen(the 1810 census, show no daugter still living with them, so she had married before 1810).
Weston(1790-1858) removed to Granby,Oswego Co.,NY befoer 1820 and had the following children: Betsey(w/o James Baker),John(married Fanstina),Irene(w/o Hugh McKiernan),Sarah Ann(w/o Oscar F. Allen), Margaret, George W.(married Mary Cole), Alzina, and Shenandah.Weston is buried in the Jacksonville Cemetery in Lysander,Onondaga Co.,NY with his wife Salina(1794-1886).
John(c.1784)was living next to his father George in the 1810 census(20010-20100), taking the 1800 census and 1810 census into account his birthyear is 1784(in 1800 he is between 10-16 and 1810 he is between 26-45). John and his wife(unk.) had two sons born between 1804-1810 and two daugter born between 1804-1810 and a son born about 1812.It is my belief that the John Allen(1807-1849) who married Nancy Wiltsie and removed to Washtenaw Co.,MI is the son of this John. three reasons: one, his birthdate of 15Feb1807 fits with this family; second in the 1810 census Nancy's father is one names away from John's father only a few from his grandfather George; Third, John and Nancy were married in Marcellus, the only other Allen family at one time was in Marcellus was John M. Allen and his wife Eunice, they however end up in Skaneateles in the 1830 census, after the formation of that town, therefore they were probably not living near the Wiltsie family, as our John Sr. was.
Almena(c.1795), may have died young, I have not record of who she married or where she ended up. The Allen Family History doesnt mention that she died young, but doesnt say anything more about her.
The other Allen children are all in Allegany County.I am a descendant of George's son Abner Allen(1797-1890) and his wife Polly Tanner(1792-1886), through there youngest son Andrew Clark Allen(1840-1922), through his son Andrew K Allenn(1860-1930), through his daughter Polly Tanner Allen(1899-) and her husband Joel D. Burdett, through their son James M. Burdett(my father).
I have other theories regarding the ancestery of George Allen, would love to share them with anyone.
Andrew A. Burdett
