Researching my line and currently at a dead end.Looking for ANY information on a John Allen who first shows up in the 1820 census in Twiggs County.Believe that he is the father of my known GrGrGrGrGrandfather Gideon Allen who was born in NC in 1805, went to Twiggs County GA between 1810-1818, and later relocated to Bossier Parish, LA in 1845.
Since the Twiggs County courthouse went up in smoke in early 1900's, no real county records survived. I have developed the following theory based on census records and bits and pieces of info extracted from various compilations of records (thanks to Bess Vaughn Clark).
John Allen b:1760-1770 =========== Wyatt Allen (Brother?) | |___ Gideon Allen b:4/22/1805 (NC)d:4/24/1875 (LA) (Son) || ||___ John G. Allen b:3/6/1835 (GA)d:9/27/1906 LA) ||| |||___ 8 Children all born in LA (My lineage) || ||___ Rufus H. Allen b:4/2/1842 (GA)d:2/1/1927(LA) || ||___ Elizabeth Allen b:3/4/1840 (GA) || ||___ William P. Allen b:8/22/1844 (GA) || ||___ Josiah W. Allen b: 2/3/1847 (LA) || ||___ Nancy E. Allen b:1/20/1851 (LA) || ||___ Georgia A. Allen b:8/18/1853 (LA) | |___ William Allen b:1800-1810(Son of John Allen?) | |___ Green Allen b:1810-1820 (Son of John Allen?) | |___ John W. Allen b:1800-1810 (Son of John Allen?)
The names Green, William, and John turn up frequently in Gideon Allen's children.This suggests they may be named after the "Twiggs Allens" who are connected to John Allen.Does any of this sound familiar to anyone on the list?ANY information would be invaluable.
