According to an ancient story in papers of a Jolliff descendant, Benjamin Allen (of Essex County, New Jersey), was taken prisoner with his uncle Richard Jolliff at Quebec in 1759. Both were sick and were buried alive. Jolliff died (which is confirmed by probate records in New Jersey), but Allen managed to get out. Many years later, visiting the home of Richard's grandson, James Jolliff, in Barren County, Kentucky, Benjamin Allen told him this story.
Benjamin Allen may have been born around 1740. He probably lived in Kentucky or Tennessee sometime during the period 1800-1820, perhaps in Barren County, or one of its neighbors. If he followed the Jolliff migration, he would have been in Washington Co., PA, in the 1775-1788 period, then in Fayette or Jessamine Counties, KY.
Does anyone know anything about this Benjamin Allen? His mother was said to be a sister of Richard Jolliff.
