I am looking for information about William Allen of mid 1800's in Anderson County, Texas. He was my great, great grandfather. My great grandfather was A. George Allen born in 1849 Anderson Co.. The story as was told by him to my grandfather, George Ross Allen, b. Throckmorton Co. was thus; They lived on a plantation and raised cotton, tobacco and indigo and early in the civil war Union soldiers burned his family home and killed his family leaving only him.He was in the woods and hid and watched as this happened. He grew up and we know he was a Texas Ranger for awhile. At the age of 35 he married in Throckmorton, Texas, Dovie Ann Self who was born in Freestone Co. Texas which is a bordering county of Anderson, Co..This makes us wonder if in fact the families were neighbors or acquaintances during the time of his family's death and perhaps he made his way to Throckmorton county because of them as they had settled there as well.We know nothing more of the family other than on A. George Allen's death certificate it lists his father as having been William Allen, born in Ireland and his mother being born in Scotland. It does not list his mothers name. A. George and Dovie Ann Allen lived near Round Timber, Texas which we believe was near Throckmorton. In late 1800's he drove cattle to Dodge City, Kansas and while traveling through Western Oklahoma found land in Dewey County and later brought his family there to homestead. If you can give me any further information about the William Allen story I would love to hear from you.
