I ran across this at the library today.Maybe you already have this information. It is from Court of Equity Records of Barnwell District, SC.complied by Folks Huford
Edelina and Esther Allen vs. Miles Riley, sheriff, and C. G. Minninger.Injunction and Equitable Refief.Filed Feb. 29, 1828.
Petitioners are minors and sue by Leroy Allen as "next friend".Their mother, Mrs. Harriet G. Allen, on Nov. 27, 1816, conveyed to them a negro girl and she, the said mother, later married John Jenkins who on March 26, 1827, mortgaged the slave girl to Chas. R. Stone.Stone has since died and Mimminger is admr. on his estate, and has undertaken to forclose said mortgage.Petitioners aver the slave is theirs, also claim the mortgage is void because when Jenkins when he married their mother, had a lawful wife living in Georgia. All parties reside in B.D.
As stated in an earlier e-mail, I have copies of bill of sales where Adaline and Samuel Jefcoat, Harriet and John Jenkins and Esther Allen (she is named Esther Allen in one and Easter A. Allen on the second). My family had always assumed that because on one they were selling land granted to Josephus Conelly in 1787, that they were sisters. But now it looks like they were Mother and daughters.Do you have any more information on this family.Any information would be appreciated.
