The 1852 Iowa State Special Census, Polk County, Greenfield TWP lists:
Line #19 William Allen, 1 Male; 1 Female
Line #20 Isaac Allen, 1 Male; 4 Females
Line #21 Whitley Allen 10 Males; 4 Females
Line #24 William M Allen, 5 Males; 4 Females
Line #25 Jessie Allen, 5 Males; 5 Females
My Great-Grandfather, William M. Allen arrives in Iowa in 1852, and is listed in the 1856 Iowa State Census of Polk County, Poweshiek TWP.There are now 4 males & 3 females listed. However, Edwin has since married and moved out & is listed along with his wife.Elizabeth is not listed and she too may well have been a member of the household in l852.
Whitley Allen's father was named William Allen, b. 1783.Pat Ralston has advised me that "William Allen's first wife Polly Burns died after giving birth to Whitley, March 3, 1803"."William Allen remarried a couple of times after her death".
In 1852 Whitley's father William Allen would have been 69 years old.Is this Whitley's father who is listed, vice my GreatGrandfather??Both had a household of 9 members??
Both had the name "William M. Allen"??
