Taken from the White County News & Telegraph, Cleveland, Ga., Thursday, May 2, 2002 Mr. Jesse Lee Allen Jr. 81, of Cleveland died Thursday, April 25, 2002 at the Lanier Park Campus of Northeast Georgia Medical Center following a brief illness. Graveside services were held Saturday, April 27, 2002 at Gateway Memory Park. The Rev. Dave Fortner officiated. Mr. Allen was born in Cooper, Texas and spent most of his life in Atlanta. He moved to White County in 1995. He was a 1939 graduate of Abraham Baldwin Agriculture College. He served with the United States Army durin WWII and the Korean Conflict. Mr. Allen was a 30 year member of the North Atlanta Gospel Chapel in Atlanta, as well as a charter member of the Morrow Lodge of F&AM #734 where he served as a chaplain. He owned and operated Allen's Mobile Home Park in Atlanta for some 25 years, and served as administrative assistant under former Gov. Lester Maddox. He is survived by his wife, margie Allen of Cleveland; sons, Ben Allen of Loganville, Larry Allen of Cleveland; sister, Angie Allen Westmoreland of Gulf Breeze, Fl; four grandchildren; and five great grand children. Those wishing to do so may make memorial contributions to the American Cancer Society. Alexander's Gateway Memorial Chapel Funeral Home of Cleveland was in charge of the arrangements.
