Carmella - Do you know the name of the father of Henry Wolcott Allen 1824 NY?I have seen your postings before, and wondered......my Benjamin/WIlliam Allens were in Canada> WI > MN > SD during this time period.I know that our William Allen's are not one in the same, but am wondering if you have anything that connects the families.
My Benjamin M. Allen (b.?) m. Clarissa Beech (b.?) in Darlington Canada West, 1823.William Clark Allen was their 11th and last child born.I do not know the names or dob of any of his siblings.William Clark Allen was b. 15 Nov 1845 Newcastle Canada. He married in Dekorra, WI in 1867.Family Bible states that Benjamin and Clarissa Allen both died in Portage, WI in 1865 - I have a picture of them taken in the early 1860s in Neillsville, WI.
I have always assumed that all of Benjamin and Clarissa's children were born in Canada before moving to Wisconsin, however I have begun to notice that the few other Allens in the Portage and Dekorra, WI area associated with my Benjamin and William Allen in the 1860 census - have NY recorded for state of birth. For instance, L.B. Allen was the "witness" at William Clark Allen's wedding. In the Dekorra, WI 1860 census L.B. Allen was 30 yrs old (b. 1830, so is a possible brother) and state of birth was listed as NY.
Back to William Clark Allen for the SD, MN Link: After having two sons in Wisconsin (William Carr Allen b.1869 and Hugh Allen b. 1873), William Allen's third son(Walter Allen b. 1879) was born in Minneapolis, MN, and his fourth and final son (Harry Allen b. 1861)was born in Groton, Brown County, SD.William Clark Allen died in 1910 in Minneapolis, MN.
Please let me know if you have run into this Benjamin and William Allen family in any of your searches.thanks!!
