JOHN PRIEST was born in Washington County, Iowa, June l9, l856, and departed this life at the family home near Arispie, Iowa, March l, l924, aged 67 years, 8 months and l2 days.
In l865 he moved with his parents to Decatur County, Iowa, where he grew to manhood. When a young man he gave his heart to Christ and remained faithful to the end. He was united in marriage to FANNIE BRUNER, March 23, l879. To this union were born twelve children, eight girls and four boys. One girl, LAURA MAE, preceded the father in death at the age of eleven months. He moved with his family to Union County, Iowa, in November, l89l, where he had since made his home.
He leaves to mourn his departure his beloved wife and eleven children, 2l grandchildren, 3 sisters, 3 brothers and a host of other relatives and friends. The children, all of whom were present, are MRS. LEOTA ALLEN, of Parks, Neb.; W.E. PRIEST, of Creston, Iowa; MRS. SUSIE RYAN, of Yuma, Colorado; J.L. PRIEST, of Kellerton, Iowa; MRS. JANE ALLEN, of Bayard, Iowa; EARL PRIEST, of Shannon City, Iowa; MRS. CLARA LAWSON, of Shannon City, Iowa; PEARL, BERTIE, FANNIE and FLOYD, at home.
Funeral services were held at the home on March 4th, conducted by Rev. Ellen Johnson, and his remains were laid to rest in the Green Lawn Cemetery at Afton, Iowa.
