Thanks for the information! The problem was that I was not aware that there were two William M. Allens, both living in Jasper County, Iowa in 1852.Both William M. Allens had 5 males & 4 females in their household in l852.Both William M. Allens had a grown married son, also named "William Allen", one is whom is listed in this census.
From information that I have, my Greatgrandfather, William Maynard Allen moved to Jasper County, Iowa in l852. I confused him with William M. Allen, father of Whitley Allen.I am convinced now that this census is the William M. Allen who was the father of Whitley Allen.
In the census index of Ancestry.com, it is listed as: 1852, Allen, William M., Polk County, IA, 008, Lynn Township. When you order this census it is actually in Greenfield Township.
My William M. Allen moved from Polk to Story County, and is listed in the l860 census for this county.
