Hey Y'all just found Hiram Allen today on the 1870 Talladega County Alabama census. So now know where he was from 1830 through 1850 and 1870-1880.Have to find him on the 1860 census.
Hiram and Cyntha are living in Talladega, Munford, township 17 Range 6 East.Household 142 family 142.Hiram is never sure about his age I don't believe, Cynthia is always sure of her age! Hiram is listed as age 77 a white male, a blacksmith, born in South Carolina.Cyntha is age 56 keeping house, born in GA.Neither of them can read or write.Children still in the household are my gr. grand dad, Columbus age 26, a white male, a farm laborer andborn in GA.Hiram and Cynthia have had a son since the 1850 census. He is William white male age 17 born in GA.Both can read but not write. All the other children are now out of the household.Know where Cynthia was she was a newly wed, married to Robert Smith Parker.
Still don't have any thing further on Vesta (Nesta), David, Amanda (except they were probably twins), Joshua, Titus G. and the new son, William Allen
I believe that Columbus got married later that year as he has a daughter born in 1871.Another daughter born in 1873.Then it seems his first wife dies and he remarried in 1875 to my great grandmother Rachel E. Lloyd.Columbus and Rachel are found on the 1880 Census in Calhoun Co. Al. but the two daughters from the first marriage are not living in the household. Was this the awful thing that my aunt doesn't want me to find out.Did my gr. grandma refuse to raise his children from this first marriage?Who did raise them?I know that Columbus must have kept in contact with them as he mentioned them each by name in his will and knew that Cynthia had married a Wilemon. (She married Columbus Perkins Willmon). Her sister, Mary is found on the 1920 census living with them in Union, Newton Co. Miss.
Would love to hear from you and try to catch up and connect up more of these Elusive Allens.
