Price's book will give you a run down on William of Manchester and his descendants. Price, John. "Genealogy of the Allen Family of Manchester, Mass. from the Earliest Settlement to the Year 1886." Salem: Salem Press, 1888. [located at Manchester Historical Society, Union Street, Manchester-by-the-Sea, MA 01944]
If you can get to a genealogy library, the following book has excellent information on William's beginnings. Or you can buy it at NEHGS, as I did!Anderson, Robert Charles. "The Great Migration Begins, Immigrants to New England 1620-1633" V. I,A - F, Boston:New England Historic Genealogical Society, 1995, pp 31-35.
My husband's line is William, Samuel, Jonathan, Malacha, Malachi, William, Charles H.(of whom much is written in the Peabody Essex Museum Library in Salem, MA), Charles Franklin (who immigrated to St. Louis, MO, and Mary Penniman Allen.
Many of the Allen's were mariners, captains, and carpenters. The Manchester Historical Library has quite a bit on this family. We and a cousin have been working on this line for some time now.Not living in Massachusetts puts a strain on our efforts, however.
If I can help, e-mail me by Jan. 20 or after Feb 26.I'll be out of touch during the interim.
