Susan Butterworth (born around 1832 in Hall County, Georgia) married William J. Crow 28 Dec 1856 in Hall County. Most of her family moved to Talladega County, Alabama (or adjacent counties) before 1860.
Susan and William had one son, George W., born in March 1858 in Georgia. William was subsequently killed in the Civil War.
In 1870, I find Susan and her son George living with her parents (Isaac and Parky Butterworth) in Talladega County. In 1880, George has just married his wife, Mary C., and is still living near the Butterworth family. Susan is not enumerated.
Recently a contact has made me think that Susan may have remarried and had additional children, but died before 1880. In 1880, her sister-in-law, Elizabeth Butterworth Waters, has two children - Emma and Cynthia Allen - living with her. Her husband's will refers to the girls as "grand-nieces" of his wife. According to this researcher, the girls' father was Columbus Allen, who had remarried and had two additional daughters by 1880.
If there is a descedant of the Crow or Allen family out there who could either confirm or deny this theory, I would certainly appreciate it.
I am a descendant of Susan's sister Mary Ann Butterworth Jones, and have tried to collect information about her siblings. I would be glad to share with any one else researching this family.
