Hello Susan, I have traced my Allen line back to my great great grandparents, Ashbel or Ashabel Allen and his wife, Catherine Baldridge. At that point, I hit the proverbial brick wall, and I am wondering if you can find this family in your book about the Samuel Allen family.
Ashbel Allenwas born about 1797, and his wife was born about 1800.According to a brief biography of one of their children, "they were married in their native state of Vermont, then moved to St. Lawrence County, NY, then settled in Oneida County, NY."Ashbel died Sept. 28, 1839, in Akron, Ohio, and is buried there.Catherine died March 20, 1862, in Lorain Co., Ohio.
Their four children were Matilda S. Allen, b. 1831 in Canada, and married William D. Mead; Ethan P. Allen, b. 1834 in Oneida Co., NY, married Jane Eaton, and died July 1864 while fighting in the Civil War; William Wallace Allen (my great grandfather), b. Feb. 28, 1837, in Oneida Co., NY, married Mary Burns, and died in 1914; and Henry Nelson Allen, b. Dec. 31, 1839, in Geauga Co., Ohio, married Marinda Mead, sister of William Mead, and died in 1914.All four of these children have descendents living today who I have met through this Allen GenForum.Any help that you can provide in finding the parents of Ashbel Allen and Catherine Baldridge would be appreciated.Thank you.
