Hello.I would like to learn more about (Capt.) Nehemiah ALLEN who reportedly was born in ~1715 in Providence, RI.He also might have been born in MA, and part of the confusion is that the town of Attleboro Gore, MA, became Cumberland, RI, in 1746.I believe this Nehemiah ALLEN married Abigail WATERMAN in ~1745 in Providence, RI, but they might have lived their married life in Cumberland, RI (originally a town in MA).
He might have been born 7/4/1715 and died 7/6/1788 in RI??A "1777 Military Census for Cumberland, RI" showed a Nehemiah ALLEN at Age 60+.
I believe that this Nehemiah and Abigail ALLEN had two daughters in Cumberland, RI, in 1757 and 1763.There is a small possibility they had a son, Nehemiah ALLEN, born in 1756.
The LDS records show ..a lot.. of misinformation about Nehemiah ALLEN's.But, the "family line" might be:
Samuel ALLEN, b~1597 Samuel ALLEN, b~1632(to Windsor, CT) Isaac ALLEN, b~1650 Nehemiah ALLEN, b~1680 Nehemiah ALLEN, b~1715
However, one researcher shows them descended from the other ALLEN patriarch in MA:George ALLEN.Does anyone know the correct "line" for Capt. Nehemiah ALLEN, born ~1715 along the MA/RI border?
I would also like to know if anyone has a list of this Nehemiah ALLEN's children.I am looking to see if he is the correct father for Mary ALLEN who was born in 1763 in Cumberland, RI, who married Joseph DEXTER in Cumberland, RI, in 1785.Joseph and Mary (ALLEN) DEXTER moved to Killingly, CT, soon after they married. They raised 9 children there.
Their youngest was Marvin DEXTER, who married Mary Ann ALLEN, daughter of John and Anna (HAVEN) ALLEN who married in Brooklyn, CT, in 1794.I have not yet found out if this John ALLEN was descended from Samuel ALLEN, one of the founders of Windsor, CT.
