My research is African-American centered. My current target is Sarah D. ALLEN who was born ca 1789 and she arrived in Randolph County, MO. about 1836 from Albemarle County, Virginia. She is listed on the 1860 Mo Slave Schedule as owning 19 slaves. It is not known if she was born or married an ALLEN. There is one other ALLEN (Joseph) on the 1860 Mo Slave Schedule. Mo. Land Patent records show that a John ALLEN was granted land on 11/02/1837 in Randolph County (#8307). It is not known if Sarah is connected to either Joseph or John.
Circumstantial evidence suggests my gg grandmother's maiden name may have been ALLEN. Her given name was Charlotte. On the 1870 census VA is listed as her birth place, while in in 1880 KY is listed. Her husband's name is known; Robert WASHINGTON (b. ca 1830-Virginia; 1870 census). There are no WASHINGTONS on the 1860 Mo Slave Schedule.Robert died before 1880.They may have been married (legally) on 12 Feb 1866 in Randolph County, Mo. My task is to rule... in or out..... Sarah D. ALLEN as a focus of further research.
