Virginia, My grandmother was a Jones. Daughter of Edgar Jones; granddaughter of Levi Benton Jones and Mary Elizabeth Griffith. She was the great granddaughter of Millie Ann Oller and Christopher Griffith.
Millie was the daughter of Arthur Oller and Rebecca. I believe, but have no solid proof that Rebecca was an Allen. I have been very blessed to have some letters sent to me that were written by my grandmother's aunt, Vida Jones Woodruff, to several researchers. They contain some very important clues I believe, just can't tie them all together yet (the biggest challenge I suspect is that she called people aunt and uncle that may not have been blood related, but more as sign of respect.)
For example, Aunt Vida writes in this excerpt: "Aunt Millie, my grandma, used to talk all the time about the old Rev War so I know some of her folks was in it. An Oller and Allen had to marry brothers and sisters for Aunt Milie and Car Allen was double cousins.Look at his grave stone at Parks. Belve Allen, Aunt Millie Uncle, was killed by Bush Whackers. My mother was 6 years old and seen it – it was in Civil War. Irene I can’t read my own writing and I think of something new every day. Vida"
(Her mother is Mary Elizabeth Griffith Jones and she is referring to her in this paragraph.)
More: "Ell Baggs was cousin to Ollers some way or Jones. Aunt Mary Curl was kin to the Ollers. Judge Curl was judge at Hot Springs for years. Car Allen was a double cousin to Millie and Ollers. Two Allens and Ollers must married brothers and sisters. Old Uncle Belve Allen, Car Allen’s dady, lived with Aunt Millie at Civil War he was crippled and helped with her children and he was killed by bushwhackers."
I would appreciate more information on Carr Allen and his family. Thanks.
