Jimmie, this is interesting.Your W. R. Allen was only a couple counties to the east of mine.Mine's 1st wife died about 1866 and he remarried same year as had a son and dau to raise. But in 1880, there was a clara McBride living with him and new wife, listed as "daughter", age 7 or 8. I later found out from her granddaughter that Clara was illegitimate and had rough life. I found her marriage record and she didn't list anything for father but put mother'sname as "Ella McBride".They said Clara never wanted to talk about her life, so I couldn't learn details -- but I never could figure out how WR and family got her and why!(They had their own kid, didn't need to adopt.) Wonder if she was his!!!!!He must have been in civil war cause his 1st wife was head of household in 1865 state census. Maybe he met someone right after and came back to her later even though he was married.Accdg to death cert, Clara was born March 9, 1872.If your Helen wasn't married, any chance that she was a McBride?I don't think Wm. Riley Allen is a real common name, but maybe I'm wrong.
