Read your message about Rose, 2nd wife of Joseph Allen, b. 1653.My ancestry is up through Joseph and through his first wife Rachel Griggs.Rose had the last name of HOWARD according to Savages' book "James Savage: Genealogical Dictionary of the First Settlers of New England"I have other sources for the early Allen's in New England if you wish to research them. If your ancestry is back to William Allen and Ann Goodale, be careful on the dates to William's birth. There are two William Allen's, one born in 1602 and one in 1610/11.Some have Williams' father being a William born in 1602 and having the other William born in 1611. I am quite sure that William did not have a child at the age of 8!!They have different lines and many have joined wrong names with the wrong William.Joseph was a Captain & a blacksmith. He bought land in Amesbury. He moved to Gloucester before 1705.His will, June 24, 1724 mentioned Rose and his children. The following is the exerpt from Savage about Joseph:"*JOSEPH, Gloucester 1674, blacksmith, had Joseph and d. 1724. aged 71, as Boabson tells; and in his vol. we learn, that he m. 1680, Rachel Griggs, prob. d. of William had Joseph, b. 1681; Jeremiah, 1682; and Rachel, 1684; and his w. d. 26 Apr. of that yr. In the same yr. he m. ROSE HOWARD, and had Solomon, 1685; Benjamin, 1687; a s. without name; Thomas, 1689; Ann, 1691; John, 1692; Rose, 1694; William, 1696; Mercy, and Patience, tw. 1697; Jeremiah, again 1698; Samuel 1701; Zerubabel, 1703; and Moses, 1706. He was capt. and rep."Please let me know what your connection to the Allens' are.
