While researching my g-grandmother, Annie Long Manley, I came across her family's census records in Davidson Co. TN, 1860, 1880 + 1890.It seems her mother, Bridget had another child, from a previous marriage.I have hit a brick wall on this family as I have no GIVEN names for either of the husbands nor a maiden name for the mother.
Here's what I DO have
Bridget (born Ireland, circa 1838) No known maiden name.
Bridget was listed as Bridget Allen - widow- in the 1860 Davidson Co, TN census.With her is her son Martin Allen (born 1856, Davidson Co, TN).They were living with the Fagan family.The father of Martin is listed as having been born in Ireland as well.I have checked every possible combination for Fagan, Allen, Bridget, etc... with only the census records to show. No maiden name for Bridget, no given name for her hubby.
By 1861-1862 Bridget has remarried to an unknown LONG, ALSO born in Ireland.They have a daughter, Annie who was born 1862-1863, Davidson Co., TN.The previous is also extracted from census records of 1880-1890.
Bridget and Martin don't appear on any further census records and Annie married Malcolm G. Manley, son of Basil C. Manley, commander of Manly's Battery and grandson of Gov. Charles Manley (NC).Malcolm and Annie remained in TN (Knoxville)and had many children.Annie was widowed by 1920.
Through extensive research, I BELIEVE the LONG in question was Thomas, who died as a result of injures/illness from sustained during the Civil War (3rd TN Reg.m Calvary).
Logic would seem to dictate that the unknown ALLEN would have been Martin, with the son being named for him.Nothing comes in up the research along that line.The husbands and Bridget and her busbands may very well have come from CO. Cork, as that was Annie's oral history for the family.
In short, I have;
Bridget ??? born 1838, Ireland (poss. Co Cork) married ??? ALLEN (also born Ireland).
Martin ALLEN son of the above, born Davidson CO., TN 1856.Found on census records 1860-1880.Nothing after that.
Bridget married ??? LONG (STRONG possible match is Thomas)also born Ireland. Annie, child of the above was born Davidson Co., TN 1862-1863 (depends on census time frame). Bridget is widowed again by 1880, after which time she and Martin are no longer found on any records.
I need to find out just who the mysterious Mr. ALLEN was and to find out what happened to Mr.s ALLEN, Martin ALLEN and to Bridget.
Any ideas out there amongst the ALLEN family researchers?
